Seasoned turkey farmers
It’s safe to say that turkey farming is in the blood. Sam is grandson to Derek and Molly Kelly, who started Kelly’s Turkeys over 50 years ago, and son to Lynne (daughter of Derek and Molly) and Graham who both reared turkeys for the majority of Sam’s childhood.
Kelly’s Turkeys are based in Danbury, Essex and they hatch all the eggs laid here on farm as well as the turkeys we then contract rear for various suppliers. We also sell the infamous KellyBronze Christmas turkey every year in December and have done for over 10 years - you can read more on that here.
Sam has many fond memories of growing up around the family business. He remembers assembling egg boxes for 2p a box at the age of four, people have remarked on how he’d be doing it for hours.
Graham started rearing turkeys over 30 years ago and Sam is well experienced in every aspect of a turkey’s life. The turkeys live a happy life here on the farm - as close to their natural life as we can.
Our next thing to try with the birds is to have them free-range behind the cattle on the Herbal Ley. Something we’re hoping to do this year - we’ll be documenting it on social media, come and join us!
